What will your world be judged on?
How can you win up to $100,000 for updating a world? That is what everyone wants to know, but it isn’t a simple answer. Here is some advice:
1. Start early
Make early and often updates to your project to keep momentum going. Remember, everyone is updating their EXISTING worlds with progression and sharable experiences. Make sure yours stands out:
- Use Quests to help players onboard and measure progression
- Offer visual and auditory feedback mechanisms to inform users of their progress
- Implement a compelling rewards system like unlocking opportunities for expression
- Provide intentional moments for capturing content and/or include humor and randomness
- Incorporate collaborative, cooperative, and/or competitive gameplay
The individuals that will score your project and pick the winners (the judges) are looking for worlds that align with the design guidance.
2. Understand the Judging Criteria
When designing and building your world for Meta Horizon, it's important to focus on key areas that judges will be evaluating. Your world will be judged based on the following:
- Technical - To score highly here, the updated world will need to offer rich and interesting interactivity or functionality. See more here.
- Visuals and Sound - To score highly here, the art of the updated world or game should be visually appealing and enhance the overall experience. See more here.
- Experience Design - To score highly in experience design, the world should consider the essence of the player’s experience from the moment they arrive in the world. See more here.
- Social - To score highly in social, the world should offer ways for people to connect and find shared moments together. See more here.
3. Test and Update your World
The best way to ensure your world offers a great experience on mobile and web is to test it on these devices throughout the development lifecycle. Find instructions on how to test on web and mobile here.
Keep working and updating your world and Devpost submission until the July 21st deadline. You can edit and update as much as you would like until the submission deadline is reached.
Use every resource available to you and better your chances of scoring highly and winning the $100,000 prizes. The deadline is July 21, 2025 at 11:45 pm PT.
